Chun Wei Shi, known in art and music as Stone Chun Shi, is the founder of MADICE. His work moves between painting, composition, performance, media and technology.

Born in Nanjing, China, Stone moved to New York in 1987. After studying painting in China, he became part of New York’s contemporary art scene, exhibiting at venues including the Alternative Museum, The Clocktower and White Columns. His work later reached audiences in Europe and Asia.

This movement between cultures and forms of expression continues through his visual art, music and work on MADICE.

The language
of Stonecube.

In 2010, Stone began developing Stonecube, also known as Stone Oil Cube: a painting method built from small, raised units of oil paint. The brushwork draws on Chinese calligraphy, while color and structure bring it into conversation with Western oil painting.

Thousands of individual marks form a larger image. Seen close up, the surface reveals texture, rhythm and variation; from a distance, a recognizable subject emerges. His subjects range from currency and cultural icons to reinterpretations of historic paintings.

His work is held in collections including the Grimm Museum in Germany and ICBC New York. In 2026, Memor Museum presented STONECUBE: The Initial Language of No-Time Consciousness, bringing together works and archival material from across his career.

From rock performance
to Flow Music.

Stone’s early musical experience began with the erhu and bamboo flute. Their melodic language continues to inform his guitar playing and composition. His practice has moved from heavy metal performance to the more spacious, attentive listening he explores through Flow Music.

In his Apple Music artist interview, he describes painting and composing alongside one another, finding that his Stonecube paintings and music naturally support each other. His current direction brings Eastern melodic sensibility together with contemporary rhythm and sound.

KIRO STONE brings his released music and visual work into one creative home. The catalog provides a direct way to encounter the work that sits alongside the MADICE platform.

Making art.
Building platforms.

During the 1990s, Stone worked across visual art, rock music and television in Taiwan, and became a VJ for MTV Asia’s Mandarin channel. His programs included Headbanger’s Ball, Time Out and China Block.

He later developed online media platforms and pursued projects in streaming media, mobile applications and wearable technology. His design archive includes the MADICE Smart Pair, a smartwatch and camera concept presented in 2015.

This history gives the MADICE story a practical foundation in both creating work and building the systems through which people experience it.

MADICE brings these strands of art, music and technology into a shared direction: Human Sound Intelligence. Its central idea is that sound gains meaning through the person, the moment and the life around it.

Moment, State, Context, Space and Memory form the platform’s framework for understanding that relationship. Stone Music begins with the moment; Stone Flow with how life feels; Stone Match with the stories people want to tell. The Light of Humanity makes room for presence and remembrance. Stone Cube is the platform’s planned step into ambient sound in physical spaces.

KIRO STONE is the artist and catalog home. MADICE is building the sound layer for everyday life, bringing that experience to listeners, families, communities and artists.

Beyond the studio.

Stone is also the artist and founder behind the Stonecube Art Association. The organization’s mission includes supporting artists through exhibitions, educational programs, residencies and opportunities to connect with audiences and patrons.

It extends his practice into a wider creative community, making space for other artists to develop and share their work.
